Storms
This Sunday the first reading, the psalm and also the Gospel, all mention storms at sea but for meditation this week let us consider the storms we all encounter in our daily lives. Most of us can recall times when we were truly afraid; while our faith was tested with frightening events and storms that threatened our very existence, and we doubted how we would survive such a test. For some it was a sudden death of a loved one; an impending divorce; a loss of a job and fruitless days searching for another or perhaps some other tragedy that we are forced to face. The possible storms we all encounter are numerous and we too will be like the Apostles as we call out to God for help. Doesn’t God care that we are terrified? Yes He does.
It is in such times that we are put to the tests and Jesus will say to us also. “Ye of little faith. I am here”. The next times you find yourself scared by whatever storm causes you great anxiety and fear, call out with faith to Jesus who seems to be sleeping. He will also come to your aid too as He calms and stills your storm. Have faith and know that nothing is going to happen to you that God cannot control. Relax and breathe in the calming breath of the Holy Spirit as you call out to Jesus. He will calm the storms and bring you peace and you, like the Apostles, will grow from the event.
This Sunday, is Fathers Day in the United States. How do you intend to celebrate it? I would like to suggest that all of you gather together in the fathers’ parish church this Sunday for Holy Mass. This will be the greatest gift that you can give to all fathers; to see their family all gathered as one worshiping God the Father. It will be a Sunday they will never forget. I am sure of one thing, if this happens Jesus will not be sleeping.
May this be a Happy and Blessed Fathers Day to all Fathers.
